Study Task 8 - Reflective Writing

A list of things I have done during this project :

  1. Read books on cyberculture.
I've learnt how much the internet is a key part of out society.

     2. Read articles online about fan theories.

- I've learnt that people think very deeply about the things they are obsessed with.

     3. Heard peoples reactions to the theories others have proposed.

     4. Learnt and understood more about intertextuality.

     5. Gained more of an understanding into how people understand things.
     6. Learnt how peoples opinions can effect shows.

     7. Social Networking - before and after the internet.

Study Task 7 - Practical Planning

For this project I plan to create character designs that represent a word that also links into fan theory. For example if, who, what etc.

My plan is to do a series of different style characters for each word, not only will this help me narrow down which design I like the most, it also gives the impression of a fan base.

I plan to look into some different character designers and see how they have gone about creating their designs.

Thus far I have create some images initial sketches of the characters and plan to ask others opinions to see which they feel represents the word the most, then I will take one design and complete it further.

Cyberculture

As my project is very internet based, I thought it would be really beneficial for me to look into the concept of cyberculture.

This book commented on how the internet has affected society and how people react to how the web has taken over culture. It also gives an explanation on how we are dependent on the internet, and how it is a tool that we have used to better our lives.

This book gives a brief explanation on other concepts such as cyberpunk culture, piracy artificial intelligence and much more. This book goes into deep explanation of the fundamentals of the internet.

Sub Culture.

After deciding with my tutors that I should focus on another path I spoke with my support teacher and we went to the library to investigate into some books and topic that may be helpful.

After thinking about things the idea of sub culture came to mind. Fan theory (my new topic) definitely falls into the category of sub culture. I believe this as it's part of a wider group which is referred to as a fandom, and this group has broken apart from this and focused on something a little more niche.

I found a book written by  Warren Kidd, this book focuses on how identify and culture interlink, but It also briefly touches on the concept of sub culture giving a brief explanation of how they brake apart from the wider more dominant cultures.

Books

For the project so far I bought a book to begin with called suspicious minds, which focused on conspiracy theory or more specifically why people believe in conspiracy theories.

I've read part of the book, and so far it's discussed some interesting theories, such as the assassination of J.F.K and lizard people being in charge of the government. And even the effects of the illuminati.

I found this really insightful as I wanted to look into the mind set of someone that believes or even comes up with these conspiracies. Which this book has definitely touched on.

Study Task 5 - Practical Approaches Page

Practical Approaches

As I have decided to change my subject slightly, I cannot base my practical approaches page on my initial introduction work. But I endeavour to clearly state my plan for this new subject I intend to research into.
I intend to investigate into how fan theory effects people, and how in can form community's. I decided to do this rather than conspiracy theories because I can link animation to fan theory much more simply. Being a person that spends a lot of time on the internet I'm already rather well versed in fan theory.
I plan to do most of my research online when it comes to the theories, as that is where people tend to explain their theories. But I also plan to do some reading into cyberspace, and culture. I feel that researching into culture, mainly sub culture would be very relevant for my essay, as people that tend to be fan theorists have their own form of culture.
For this essay I plan to use as much social media as I can so that I can look into the theories, as usually that is where people post their theories. I may also make a questionnaire for theories people may or may not believe. For my sketch book, I plan to make a series of character designs following terms that retaliate to fan theory such as, obsession, what, who, when, can etc...
